‘Beware of fake land titles in Bataan’

manila bulletin blue logoDinalupihan, Bataan – The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) advised the public to exercise caution when purchasing parcels of land and real estate property due to the proliferation of fake land titles.

Lawyer Arnel M. Mallari, chief of the legal division of the DAR office here, issued the warning after receiving reports that several land buyers were victimized by unscrupulous individuals who showed them fake land titles, particularly in the booming industrial municipality of Mariveles.
Mallari advised potential buyers to check and verify the ownership, status and authenticity of land titles with the local DAR office or the local government.

Mallari cited the case of a sprawling land in Barangay Alas-asin, Mariveles which was formerly owned by a private individual until it was placed under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program, based on the existing laws.

The said lands, he pointed out, has multiple claimants armed with titles.

Worse, it was gathered that so-called professional squatters and armed syndicates have already occupied and fenced off the area, posing major obstacle to the local government and legitimate land owners.
