Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Conrado Guevarra said the cashew processing project aims to raise the value of their cashew products, and thus augment the income of the farmers.

“Through the up-valuing program of the DAR, we coordinated with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to conduct various trainings and seminars about business and product development to our farmers,” said Guevarra.

“The DTI and DOST provided the necessary trainings and knowledge transfer to address the needs of the farmers on production, processing and marketing of their cashew products. The products were also subjected to product designing and branding,” explained Guevarra.

Aside from the trainings, Guevarra said the synchronized efforts of the DAR, DTI, DOST and the local government of Roxas have provided the cooperative with a processing center, a drying pavement and an LPG-based oven for their cashew business.

“With the processing facility and the farmers’ learning on food processing and entrepreneurship, our farmers can now compete in a wider commercial market,” Guevarra said. (Fedeleo L. De Guzman)
