Farmers adopt results-based management approach to agri-business

news reg 2 pix 1 may 18 2016Farmers from MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) region recently underwent a Results-based Management and Accountability workshop to gain more quantifiable results and benefits from projects provided for them by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

Assistant Regional Director Lilibeth G. Lee said the workshop is an Agri-Enterprise Development practicum that tutored the farmers on methods and approaches on how to properly monitor and assess support projects implemented under the second phase of DAR’s Agrarian Reform Communities Project (ARCP-II).

“The workshop consisted of theoretical and practical approaches in project management. Learning and sharing of each others’ experiences were a major part of the farmer-participants’ activities,” said Lee.news reg 2 pix 2 may 18 2016

The principles and approaches of the Results-Based Management and Accountability training was imparted by National Project Consultant Cora Panganiban. “Activities must be results-driven. To help farmers improve and sustain the projects under ARCP, they need to learn how to get empirical and quantitative data, not just anecdotes,” Panganiban said.

ARCP National Project Consultant Luz Ani said eight community-based organizations whose agri-business include: organic rice production, ginger tea processing and marketing, vermi-composting and production of seaweed-based products, are the projects currently being assisted by them.

news reg 2 pix 3 may 18 2016Ani said three provinces were covered by the project, among the assisted organizations were: Samahan ng Manggagawa sa Balatasan (SAMASABALATASAN), Mina de Oro ARBs MPC (MAREBEMCO), and ANILRCU IA in Oriental Mindoro; Magdiwang Agrarian Reform Cooperative (MARC) in Romblon; and Bato-Bato IA, Apurawan IA, Talakaigan Apoc-Apoc IA and Tapisan Oil Palm Growers in Palawan.
