DAR empowers farmers in Occidental Mindoro

news reg 1 pix 1 sept. 6 2016The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently distributed 105.33 hectares of agricultural lands, formerly owned by Golden Country Farms Inc., to 175 farmer-beneficiaries in Barangay Tayamaan, Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro.

Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano said the DAR is there to fight for the farmers’ right to own the lands they till and to help them sustain the lands awarded to them.

“As long as you (farmers) believe that you have rights in your land, fight for it because the DAR is here to help you in your cause. The department will also provide support services to boost your agricultural productivity,” Mariano said.

The DAR also turned over 29 units of shallow tube wells in Barangay Balansay amounting to P6,078,440.  The tube wells would serve 29 farm clusters in 111 hectares.

The DAR also inspected the recently rehabilitated farm-to-market road in Barangay Balansay. The P26.43-million road, which stretches 4.39 kilometer, provides the farmer-beneficiaries to transport their harvests with great ease.

“Our Secretary also checked the on-going construction of potable water system to ensure that it will be finished on time. The water system costing P3,635,961 will provide our people in this community a clean and safe water,”  Jacinto said.

Mamburao Mayor Angelina Trias said through the DAR’s intervention, the farmers’ quality of lives greatly improved.  “The infrastructure projects are implemented to sustain the development of our communities,” Trias said.

On the other hand, farmer-beneficiary Anacleto Navarro expressed gratitude to the government for the certificate of land ownership award that he received. “I promise that your effort to give us land will not be wasted. Me and my fellow beneficiaries will make the land more productive because these properties are our hope for a better future,” he said.
