DAR conducts training to help attain food sufficiency

web sibugayThe Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently held an orientation on high value vegetable production through natural farming system technology to representatives of various agrarian reform beneficiary organizations (ARBOs) to attain food security and alleviate poverty in rural areas.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Atty. Judith Patriarca-Mantos said to strengthen the implementation of the Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (PAHP) program of the government, the DAR gave lecture on how to further improve farmers’ production and maximize the potential of their farms through natural farming technology.

PAHP is an enhanced partnership initiative of government agencies and other stakeholders aimed to mitigate hunger, attain food self-sufficiency and alleviate poverty in the rural areas. The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Food Program (WFP) and the Government of Brazil are among the implementers of PAHP.

web sibugay02The program enhances the basic services that have already been provided by various government agencies such as DSWD’s health and nutrition and quality education for day-care children, DAR’s continued extension of technical assistance to increase ARBs’ family income and DA’s and provision of production technology and facilities to improve farmers’ production and post-harvest practices.

“This time however, these three agencies will be collaborating efforts and synergizing resources to produce bigger, tangible and sustainable results,” said Patriarca-Mantos.

The orientation activity was participated by East West Seed Company Inc, PAHP Point Person Marilou Acedo , PARPO I Elizardo Villaseca with other DAR personnel and the representatives of various ARBOs. (Cocol Carpio)
