DAR Holds Microfinance Seminar For Farmers

news regional 2 pix 1 dec. 14 2015The Department of Agrarian Reform conducted a two-day seminar on microfinance for farmers belonging to agrarian reform beneficiaries organizations (ARBOs) in Zamboanga del Norte.

The seminar entitled “Empowering Farmers on Productivity & Agri-Entrepreneurship towards Sustainable Rural Development,” seeks to enhance the knowledge and the farmers’ means of accessing support services offered by CARP Line Agencies and national government agencies.

Regional Director Engr. Felix Aguhob said “the seminar cum farmers’ convention was also a venue to learn from the experiences of other ARBOs. The overall goals of the seminar are to enhance the farmers’ productivity, strengthen and sustain their agro enterprises and microfinances.”

Discussed during seminar by the resource speakers were the following: Organic Farming-System of Rice Intensification by Adelberto B. Baniqued; Support Programs on Cacao and Coffee by ZDN Program Head Anna Aying; the Status of Rubber Industry by Science Research Specialist Ernie Camachu; Support Programs on Coconut by the PCA Provincial Manager Cely Palomar; the Status of Abaca Industry & Marketing Opportunities by Alex Jaducana, of FIDA. 

The ARBOs engaged in agri-enterprise development shared their success stories through videos and testimonials. The seminar continued on the second day with a discussion on marketing opportunities and support programs by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) representative Oliver Santos. Mr. Vinicius Hamoy of the (LBP) discussed the Land Bank of the Phil.’s (LBP) credit programs to cooperatives and ARBOs.

The seminar was participated by 400 farmers and representatives from various sectors. Mayor Evelyn T. Uy welcomed the participants belonging to 141 ARBOs, DAR officials and employees headed by Aguhob and his two Assistant Regional Directors Atty. Ramon Madronal, Jr. and Engr. Agnes Y. Maata.

Also present were DAR Provincial and Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officers and staff, invited speakers from Line Agencies and stakeholders. Members of the media coming from the different parts of the region covered the event.
