news reg pix 1 march 29 2016DIPOLOG CITY—A group of agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) here is now a proud batch of graduates of the Farmers’ Field School organized in the province by the regional office for Zamboanga del Norte of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Mohammad Dassan J. Adju said 16 ARBs completed the second batch of 28 farmer-graduates of the Farmers’ Field School and are now certified skilled organic vegetable producers, using organic fertilizers and pesticides.

“The farmers were specifically trained on high value vegetables like amplaya (bitter gourd), tomatoes, squash, string beans and egg plants using the natural way of farming or organic farming,” said Adju.

Implemented under the Agrarian Reform Communities Project (ARC), the Farmers’ Field School program, is a six-module training program where organic farming and proven agricultural practices are taught to farmers by the experts from the East West Seed Company.

“The training program also included lessons on pest and disease prevention, appropriate fertilizer application and water management. These methods will contribute immensely in increasing their vegetable yield,” explained adju.

Under the program, the ARCP has provided P141,962 worth of farm tools and training inputs to this batch of farmer-trainees through the Dipolog Vegetable Growers Association.

The association also received from the local government of Dipolog City farm tools for vegetable production, P10,000 cash as their capital start-up and P20,000 worth of high value seeds.

“The first batch of farmer-trainees was composed of 28 ARBs who graduated last September 29, 2015 in Barangay Sinaman, Dipolog City. ARCP has also allocated a total of P236,122 worth of farm tools and training inputs through the same association,” Adju said.news reg pix 2 march 29 2016
