ZAMBOANGA CITY - The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has distributed Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOA) covering 125.6651 hectares of land to 68 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) in the province of Zamboanga del Norte.
Mohammad Dassan Adju, Zamboanga del Norte agrarian reform officer, said in an emailed statement that 113.0400 hectares of the total land area distributed were located in Barangays Buenavista, Matunoy, and Lux in the town of Gatalac.
Adju said the remaining areas of 12.6251 hectares were located in the barangays of Lawigan and La union, Labason municipality.
Adju, who was joined by Gutalac Mayor Onesimo Coma Jr., led the distribution of the CLOAs to the ARB beneficiaries.
Adju said the lands awarded to the ARB-beneficiaries were only the first step toward true agrarian reform, citing they need to cultivate and make the lands productive, in a way that will improve their way of life.
Coma expressed gratitude to DAR for helping his constituents own the land they had been tilling.
Coma said the distribution of land titles was a manifestation of DAR’s commitment to help alleviate the lives of the ARBs.
He advised the ARB-beneficiaries to never sell and consider the lands as their greatest possession.
The distribution of land titles, which was held at the town hall of Gutalac, was witnessed by DAR Chief Operations Marcelino Soropia, Municipal Agrarian Reform Officer Ranroy Credo, Development Facilitator Rogelio Undap and Vice Mayor Herminio Jamandron.
