DAR: land acquisition, distribution to continue beyond CARPER term

piaIPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay, July 9 (PIA) – “Land acquisition and distribution to landless Sibugaynons will continue even with the expiration of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension with Reforms (CARPER),” said Atty. Judith P. Mantos, provincial agrarian reform program officer II of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) here in a press briefing Monday.

Atty. Mantos disclosed that her office had targeted over 2,000 hectares of land to be distributed this year, of which about 231 hectares were already granted to some landless farmers in Sibugay.

“We will continue with our task and we are hopeful, despite this great challenge, that we would still be able to provide good service to our clients in terms of land acquisition and distribution,” stressed Atty. Mantos during the 5th anniversary of the CARPER and 26th anniversary of the CARP recently.

She also emphasized that only the funds for the land reform program that would be stopped, but “the land acquisition and distribution will go on especially for landholdings with pending proceedings even after June 2014.”

Aside from the land reform program, Mantos said, DAR would have other projects and programs like the Agrarian Reform Community Connectivity and Economic Support Services (ARCCESS), the PAyapa at MAsaganang PamayaNAn in Agrarian Reform Areas Program (PAMANA-ARA), and the Agrarian Reform Communities Project II (ARCP-II) of DAR and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and others.
