The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently conducted a para-legal training for its advocates and community leaders in Caramoan, Camarines Sur.
OIC- Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Office II Ma. Gracia Sales said the farmers were trained on local planning, human rights and para-legalism, Agrarian Reform laws/policies and skills enhancement.
Sales said the training equipped the participants with knowledge and skills suited for community-based paralegals to facilitate the resolution of agrarian disputes, assist in acquisition and distribution of agricultural lands and facilitate the swift movement of claim folders and quick resolution of problematic landholdings.
She said that the formation and strengthening of community-based farmer paralegals is necessary to address the limited number of lawyers and legal officers handling the increasing issues of problematic landholdings.
Sales added that the participants expressed gratitude to DAR for the seminar, which gave them confidence and belief in themselves that they could contribute and be useful to their community. (Carla R. Yu)
