DAR  turns-over flood control project in Catanduanes

news reg pix 1 april 21 2016The Department of Agrarian Reform recently turned-over  P 2- million-worth of flood control project in the Agrarian Reform Community (ARC) in Baras in the province of Catanduanes to prevent damages to crops and nearby ricefields during massive flooding and typhoons.

DAR Regional Director Luis Bueno Jr. said the project means a lot in helping save lives and ensuring better food sufficiency.

“This project is funded under the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting (GPB) process formerly known as Bottom’s-up Budgeting (BUB). It is a strategy in pursuing the Medium-term Development Goals of the government in reducing poverty as indicated in the 2011- 2016 Philippine Development Plan,” Bueno said.

Bueno expressed his appreciations to the barangay folks especially those farmer –members of BANAAG-J Farmers’ Association, considered project partner of the agency in the Agrarian Reform Community (ARC) in Baras. The association presently boosts of 34 CARP farmer beneficiary members. Ms Violeta Guerrero is its DAR-designated Development Facilitator (DF).

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer (PARPO) Alexander  Teves enjoined the continuing cooperation and support of the local communities to safeguard the structure so that its benefits would see long-term benefits not just within barangay, where the project is built, but also on other areas as well.

In their acceptance of the project, Barangay Captains Gabriel Villanueva and Eliseo Lizaso of barangays Agban and JMA, respectively, assured the local government and the DAR management of their commitment to take good care of the project which they said is a great relief from their long-time aspiration considering that theirs is a flood-prone barangay.

Other public figures who witnessed the turn-over ceremony include Assistant Director Rodrigo Realubit,  Chief Agrarian Reform Program Officer (CARPO)  Lerma Dino, CARPO Nerisa V. Aldea  and various DAR officers from Camarines Sur Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Masbate and Albay. (Bong Villar)
