P43-million irrigation for CamNor

manila bulletin blue logoThe Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has turned over P43-million worth of irrigation projects in Camarines Norte that would provide sufficient water supply to increase rice yields and land productivity in the area. DAR-Bicol Region director Rodolfo Pangilinan said the two projects which was funded under the Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Support Projects Phase III (ARISP 3) are the rehabilitations of Santol Communal Irrigation System worth P25,631,728 and Minasag Communal Irrigation System costing P17,546,686.

Pangilinan said the improved Communal Irrigation Projects (CIPs) have the capacity to irrigate 218 hectares of rice lands and expected to benefit 51 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) who are members of Santol Irrigators Service Association Inc (SISA) and Minasag Bida Association Inc. (MBIDA).

A total of 493 ARBs from the entirety of two barangays will likewise benefit from the grant.

The areas have a potential for substantial increase in production thru application of appropriate water control measures where nearly all the farmers within the area are smallholders.
