ARBs thresh out farmers’ concerns in Bicol region

news reg 1 pix 1 june 20 2017More than 100 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) from different provinces in Bicol recently gathered for a consultation-dialogue to discuss agrarian issues and concerns affecting farmers in the region.

The forum, dubbed as “Case Conference and Planning on Land Distribution to ARBs and Qualified/Potential Farmer- Beneficiaries,” was conducted through the partnership of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Bicol -Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMB-KMP).

Regional Director Rodolfo S. Pangilinan said the farmers’ gathering was aimed at threshing out agrarian issues and concerns affecting the farmers in the region and at the same time come up with concrete measures and procedures on how to address the issues that hamper the distribution of agricultural lands to farmers.news reg 1 pix 2 june 20 2017

Some of the problems and issues identified, which contributed to the non-completion of the land acquisition and distribution, include the cancellation of emancipation patent/certificates of land ownership award issued to farmer-beneficiaries; criminalization of agrarian cases; ejection of farmer-beneficiaries from their tillage; land conversion of agricultural lands to other uses; and harassment of farmers, among others.
