DAR Aklan Campaigns to end VAW in Agrarian Reform Communities

noodlesThe Department of Agrarian Reform in Aklan through its GAD Focal Point System continues to implement programs and activities in response to its mandates under CARPER (RA 9700) and the Magna Carta of Women (RA 9710).

Ma. Teresa C. Valencia, GAD FPS Chair and PARO II of DAR Aklan issued DAR Memorandum to conduct series of activities to mark the agency's commitment End Violence Against Women (VAW) pursuant to RA 10398 declaring November 25 as the National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of violence against women and children. DAR Aklan runs series of activities consistent with the theme, "End VAW Now! It's our Duty!" for the 18 Day Campaign to End VAW in the country.

Together with Aklanon advocates, DAR joined the Walk to End VAW in the province led by Vice Governor Gabrielle Quimpo on November 25. Series of lectures on VAW laws are also discussed during the Monday morning activities until Dec 12. Last November 26 to 28, the DAR Aklan's Gender Throwback (Mainstreaming GAD in Cooperatives, Review of GAD Plan and Budget and 2014 Accomplishment Report) was conducted. The training was facilitated by National GAD Resource Pool member James Arsenio Ponce, the PARPO I of DARPO Batangas. Forty members of the GAD Focal Point System, the DAR Women's Desk and Agrarian Reform Communities' Women's Desk Officers participated.

To cap the 18 day campaign on December 12, the Men Opposed to Violence Against Women Everywhere (MOVE) DAR Aklan chapter will convene and join the 5th MOVE Provincial Congress in Malinao, Aklan. The MOVE DAR-Aklan chapter is among of the active chapters in the locality expanding its membership up to the agrarian reform communities. MOVE seeks to educate men in the barangays on their crucial roles in eliminating violence against women and children.
