IN NEG. OCC. CARP helps 110,000 farmers

visayan dailyThe lives of about 110,000 poor farmers in Negros Occidental changed for the better when they became agrarian reform beneficiaries.

Ronald Gareza, Provincial Program Officer I of the Department of Agrarian Reform, said yesterday, crediting the CARP for serving Negrense farmers as the DAR marked the 27th anniversary of its implementation this week.

The government has granted production loans worth P309 million to 17,000 ARB's, making Negros Occidental top the country in the delivery of agrarian production credit, he said.

Through CARP, Gareza said, common service facilities were delivered to the agrarian reform beneficiaries such as tractors and other equipment essential for tilling the land.

Eight farm tractors were distributed last year to 11 ARBO's. This year, three tractors will be distributed, he said.

DAR also consolidated the ARB's and assisted them in building strong foundations to support each other in all aspects of development, Gareza said.*PSF
