DAR holds agrarian reform summit, recognizes partners

piaKALIBO, AKLAN, July 13 (PIA) - As part of the inclusive partnership of all duty bearers working for the farmers of Aklan, the Department of Agrarian Reform conducted an Aklan Agrarian Reform Summit at the ABL Sports and Cultural Center at Capitol Site, Kalibo, Aklan, recently.

Ma. Teresa S. Valencia, Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer II of DAR Aklan, said that the activity was an opportunity to thank all partners in the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) especially the beneficiaries and farmers.

“Our ARB and farmers are considered the stars of the occasion and they should be honored as they are silent heroes, because if without them, we will all be starved to death,” Valencia added.

Added to this recognition, Most Outstanding Agrarian Reform Beneficiary (ARB) was awarded to Mr. Apolinario B. Francisco while Kalipunan ng Maliliit na Magniniyog ng Napaan (KAMMANA MPC), the Most Progressive ARB Organization.

Lina S. Ramirez and Mary Ann R. Barrera were awarded Outstanding Development Facilitators.

Meanwhile, 150 pneumonia vaccines were given free during the summit by the Department of Health (DOH), Rural Health Unit-Kalibo and DRSTMH led by RHU Head Dr. Melanie Tolentino, wherein farmers were given the priority.

A farmers’ market was held that showcased products of the farmers and other agricultural players which further enhanced Aklan’s agricultural activity.

On the other hand, the following were named as DAR CARP Partners: Department of Agriculture (DA), Landbank of the Philippines (LBP), LGU-Aklan, Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), Department of Health (DOH), Syngenta, Smart Communications, Manila Water Foundation, Department of Environment & Natural Resources (DENR), PILMICO, Bayer-Bigante, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Social Security System (SSS), Victory Global and Globe Telecom.

The summit was participated in by the different multi-sectoral representatives of agrarian reform in Aklan. (JCM/SQP/PIA Aklan-6)
