DAR-Iloilo Launches Farm Business School

news regional 3 pix 1 august 18 2015Agrarian reform beneficiaries will soon have the opportunity to improve their business acumen as the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) launches a farm business school in Badiangan, Iloilo.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Enrique Paderes said the farm school aims to teach agrarian reform beneficiaries on developing their farm enterprises and making their operations profitable. “We want them to be responsive to market demands,” said Paderes.

The farmers will be taught on bookkeeping, cash flows, market surveys, labor, product selling, product costing and proper packaging of their products.

According to Paredes, the pilot area will be in San Julian in Badiangan where there is an agrarian reform community.

“Our first batch of farmer-students will be trained as facilitators. We will organize training courses where they can work in small groups at their own pace using materials designed by the DA-ATI for the farm schools,” Paderes said.

The farm business school is established by the DAR, Agricultural Training Institute of the Department of Agriculture (DA-ATI) and the local government of Badiangan. (Yvonne Senobin)
