More than 2,000 seedlings of a variety of trees and high value crops purchased from the Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations will be used by the Department of Agrarian Reform, Lucresia Taberna, Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II of DAR- Negros Occidental-South, said.
This will be done together with partner LGUs and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in various tree planting activities in the province, Taberna said.
It will also help ARBOs because seedlings they prepare will be purchased from them in line with the Gender and Development aspect of their office.
The planting area in Bago City was even owned by one of the ARBOs in the area, she said, adding that this is also be part of the people’s social obligation for the environment.
More than 1,000 seedlings covering 1.5 hectares of mountainous area in Bago City were planted recently and on Oct. 16, another 500 seedlings covering more than one hectare of land will be planted, she said.
She said they are proposing to the mayor of Kabankalan that they also plant 700 seedlings covering three hectares of land there.*KDP
