DAR releases P16-M credit assistance, distributes Cloa to ARB orgs

sunstarlogoTHE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Negros Occidental-North turned over P16 million worth of credit assistance through its Agrarian Production Credit Program (APCP) to 547 farmer-beneficiaries from seven agrarian reform beneficiary organizations (Arbos) in the province covering 469.8 hectares.

The turn-over ceremony was held during the forum on Accelerated and Sustainable Anti-Poverty Program (Asap) held at the Pavilion Hotel in Bacolod City yesterday.

The Hagnaya AR Cooperative in Barangay Tabun-ac, Toboso received P1.7 million in credit assistance; Hacienda Bongco Farmers Association in Barangay Jonob-Jonob, Escalante City, P1.3 million; Unson-Gil Farms and Agricultural Corporation in Barangay Banquerohan, Cadiz City, P7.9 million; Aliwanay Agrarian Reform Cooperative in General Luna, Sagay City, P1.07 million; De Fuego I Farmers Association on Barangay Bagtic, Silay City, P1.7 million: Hacienda Caridad III FW Association in Barangay Luna, Cadiz City, P1.2 million; and Hacienda San Jose II FW Association from Barangay Kapitan Ramon, Silay City, P954,000.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer (PARPO) I Mila Flores said the credit assistance is being utilized by the farmer-beneficiaries for land preparation and farm cultivation including seeds, fertilizer and other expenses until they harvest.

Flores said they have already released most of the target P103 million funding for ARBs as of October this year.

Implemented in 2013, the APCP is pursuant to the implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension with Reforms (Carper) through DAR and its partner agency the Department of Agriculture (DA) with Land Bank of the Philippines as the depository bank. It is mainly aimed at preventing Carp beneficiaries from selling or leasing their land.

Meanwhile, DAR Negros Occidental-North also distributed yesterday 927 certificates of landownership award (Cloas) to ARBs in 30 landholdings in Manapla, Escalante City, Cadiz City, Sagay City, Silay, and E.B. Magalona, covering about 396 hectares.

Leading the turnover and distribution activity were Agrarian Reform Undersecretary Herman Ongkiko, Region 6 Director Stephen Leonidas, and Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr.
