ARBs get P83.1-M support services, loans

piaNEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA6) - - When it rains, it pours.

And it poured quite well for the agrarian reform beneficiaries in Negros Occidental as the Department of Agrarian Reform turned over a total of P83.1 million worth of Commons Service Facilities (CSF) and Agrarian Production Credit Program (APCP) in just two days.

Agrarian reform beneficiary organizations (ARBOs) from both DAR–North and DAR-South are more than elated with the tractors, shredders, threshers and loans they received from DAR.

Wilbur Oñas, chair of the Hacienda Carmenchica ARB Farm Workers Association, in his response thanked DAR, Secretary Virgilio delos Reyes and joked at Regional Director Stephen Leonidas whom he said had helped them when still has hairs in his head until he grew bald helping them.

“Sang kagina sang aga, ginhambalan ko asawa ko nga pukawan ya ko kay basi gakatulog pa ko kag ga damgo nga maka traktora na kita.  Subong tuod-tuod na kay nakita ko na ang tractora kag naka pirmahanay na,” Oñas said in the dialect.

(Earlier this morning I asked my wife to wake me up because I felt like I’m still dreaming, it’s as if it is just a dream to have a tractor.  And right now, everything is real because I already saw the tractor and I have already signed the agreement.)

Oñas added that this is a blessing from God to the government to the ARBs.

“This is a blessing from God to the government to us ARBs. Let us be thankful for all these blessings from land to money (loan) up to the tractor and let us not stop praying for more- like a truck.  From all of us, thank you DAR,” Oñas said in his  emotional speech.

A total of 14 tractors, 19 shredders, 11 threshers were turned over to 26 ARBO’s and 35 Sugar Block Farm Memorandum of Agreements were signed during the three-day activity of DAR here in the province attended by DAR Officials headed by Undersecretaries Felix Perry Villanueva, Herman Ongkiko and Director for Public Affairs and Media Relations Service Erlinda Manluctao with Regional Director Stephen Leonidas.

The tractors, shredders and threshers are support services of DAR for the ARBs as part of the Common Service Facilities under the Agrarian Reform Community Connectivity and Economic Support Services.

The total cost for all the facilities turned over amounts to P67.3 million while the APCP loan awarded to the ARBOs through the Land Bank of the Philippines reached P15.8 million.*(JCM/EAD-PIA6 Negros Occidental)
