DAR staff, ARBs plant trees

piaNEGROS OCCIDENTAL, November 2 (PIA6) – The employees of the Department of Agrarian Reform – Negros Occidental South and Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) have recently been involved in a series of tree planting activities in the province.

More than 2,000 trees combined were planted by DAR – South employees and ARBs in October 16 and 23 in Bago City and Himamaylan City, respectively.

Lucresia Taberna, DAR – South Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II, said a variety of trees were planted in Bago City, while mangrove propagules were planted in Himamaylan City.

The activities were held in coordination with the Department of Natural Resources – Negros Occidental and the local government units of Bago and Himamaylan.

Also, DAR and its ARBs are set to plant more than 1, 000 trees in Kabankalan City on November 6, Taberna said.

Meanwhile, the province has already reached its target of 3,689 hectares planted this year for the DENR’s National Greening Program (NGP).

The NGP is a massive reforestation program by the government to plant 1.5 billion trees across 1.5 million hectares in the span of six years, ending in 2016. (JCM/CBA/PIA6-Negros Occidental)
