DA-NIR pegs land tenure services at 100,000 hectares hectares - See more at: http://news.pia.gov.ph/ar

piaNEGROS OCCIDENTAL, May 31 (PIA6) - - The Department of Agrarian Reform – Negros Island Region, has the beginning balance of 100,000 hectares for land tenure services, the biggest nationwide.

Comprising of two NIR provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, DAR-NIR’s major thrust is striking the balance between three major final output of the department and three major deliverables on Land Tenure Services, Agrarian legal services and Technical Advisory and Support Services.

Assistant Regional director Dr. Antonio del Socorro said they are working on the land holding with Notices of Coverage as a newly operational department for NIR.

Out of the 100,000 hectares, the balance in Negros Oriental is only around 12,000 hectares while majority are in Negros Occidental having a bigger coverable land area since the Oriental side based on geography is hilly and mountainous.

“In terms of Land Tenure Services, we still have a big balance of about 100,000 hectares which means we need more man power to work on this,” Del Socorro added.

In April, DAR-NIR was granted the approval to hire 36 Contract of Service personnel including drivers.

According to del Socorro, their strategy is scrap and build.  Some items in region 6 and 7 will be scrapped and will be built for NIR.

“We will look at it if the manpower are enough based on the structural, organizational mechanism, if not, those are the items we will request from DBM,” del Socorro added.

DAR-NIR is in the process of determining its indicative staffing pattern in consideration of the dispatch of its major final output.

“The main contribution of the program to the national government’s agenda is help addressing issue in terms of poverty reduction and inclusive growth, as part of the social contract of the administration” Del Socorro said, adding that with DAR-NIR, they will be consistent and persistent in their advocacy.

“We are here for the Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries. The department exists because of the farmer beneficiaries, without them, there is no reason for DAR to exist.  We will do what we have to do for the benefit of the clientele,” del Socorro added.*(JCM/EAD-PIA6 Negros Occidental)
