DAR, civil society organizations in Negros Occ. strengthen partnership

news reg pix 1 july 19 2016The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and various civil society organizations (CSOs) recently held a consultative dialogue to improve their partnership in empowering farmer-beneficiaries in Negros Occidental.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Lucrecia Taberna said the dialogue’s objective is to achieve an equitable land ownership and empowered agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) who are effectively managing their economic and social development for a better quality of life.

“We tackle different issues and difficulties in implementing the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) and ask the CSOs for their cooperation in the immediate resolution of those identified hindrances. As a result, we have agreed to conduct regular dialogues with different organizations in the southern portion of the province to achieve our goals quickly,” Taberna said.

On the other hand, Jun Pandan of Kaisahan Tungo sa Kaunlarang Kanayunan at Repormang Pansakahan, Inc. commended the DAR for initiating the said dialogue because it is very proactive in handling the issues and concerns of CARP-stake holders as well as the various CSOs.

“The DAR found its way back to the right path and we promise to give our all-out support to the department,” Pandan said.

Moreover, Atty. Rolly Peoro, Legal Officer of Kaisahan, and his fellow CSO promised to push the concerns of the department leaders to the Congress for appropriate actions of the present legislators.

The consultative dialogue, held in DAR, Bacolod City, was attended by 14 leaders from different organizations including Social Action Center (SAC) of Diocese of Bacolod and Diocese of Kabankalan; Kaisahan Tungo sa Kaunlarang Kanayunan at Repormang Pansakahan, Inc.; Task Force Mapalad (TFM); Damayan ng Manggagawa, Magsasaka at Mangingisda sa Bansa (DAMMMBA), Inc.; Negros Occidental Federation of Farmers Association (NOFFA); Partido ng Manggagawa (PM) and DALO-MARA.
