“Don’t worry, I‘m on your side”—Ka Paeng

news reg 2 pix 1 sept. 8 2016.jpegJARO, ILOILO CITY (Sept. 8, 2016)—Agrarian Secretary Rafael ‘Ka Paeng’ Mariano consoles farmer Leonarda Alivar of Barotac, Viejo, after the latter revealed her experiences of harassment from landowners during a dialogue here with farmers. Ka Paeng assured the farmers that he would take the necessary steps to speed-up the process of installing the agrarian reform beneficiaries.

More than 600 farmers urged Mariano to finally install them to their land. They said that they have been waiting for it to happen for 18 years because they remain uninstalled despite having Certificates of Landownership Award (CLOAs) as early as 1990s.

The dialogue was organized by Monsignor Meliton Oso of the Jaro Archdiocesan Social Action Center (JASAC). (Edminda Roque)
