Agrarian community receives farm-to-market road

news reg 1 pix 1 sept. 4 2017Farmers and residents of the agrarian reform community (ARC) of Lipata in Barotac Viejo in Iloilo recently received from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) the concreted 4.86-kilometer Sitio Nagpana-Sitio Proper, Lipata to San Geronimo farm-to-market road (FMR).

DAR Undersecretary for foreign-assisted projects Sylvia Mallari said the FMR project worth P32.7 million would benefit the farming families of 64 agrarian reform beneficiaries as well as the residents of Barotac Viejo.

“The rough and hilly road is now passable. The concreted road now brings hope and big changes in the farmers’ way of living as their agri-products would now be easily transported to the markets,” said Mallari.

Farmers of the ARC said that it’s now easy to pass through the road even as it rains as the road has been already cemented.

Mallari said DAR will continue to propose projects to the community, to level up its standard of living. It is called connectivity road, a project to serve the community and cut short the problem in infrastructure.  “This is one of the three pillars of the department – the aim to provide a sustainable rural development,” Mallari said.

The turnover ceremony was led by Undersecretary Mallari and Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr., together with Barotac Viejo Mayor Niel “Beng” C. Tupas III, DAR Regional Director Gideon A. Umadhay, Jr., Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Sally Ortega, Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Nelida J. Gumban, Congressman Raul C. Tupas of the 5th District of Iloilo was represented by Engr. Harry Tupas and Mr. Isidro Engada, Punong Barangay Rene V. The FMR was implemented under the Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Support Project (ARISP) and was turned over to the local government of Barotac Viejo on August 25. (30)
