The Agrarian Production Credit Program of the Department of Agrarian Reform has released P91 million in grants to 29 Agrarian Reform Beneficiary groups in Negros Occidental since January.
Edna Villaruel, Agrarian Reform officer 2, also said yesterday that the P91 million in grants is part of the P130 million fund approved for release by APCP as credit support to the members of the agrarian reform groups.
She said the groups that have received the amount came from the towns of La Castellana, Cauayan and Pontevedra and the cities of La Carlota, Bacolod, Kabankalan and Himamaylan.
Villaruel added that the remaining P39 million will be distributed to ARB groups during the harvest season next year.
Seven more ARB groups will also receive P23 million in credit grants from APCP which they can use to improve their farms.
Meanwhile, the Micro-Finance Innovation, in cooperation with the Cooperative NATCCO Network Party, through the Negros Occidental Provincial Beneficiaries Development Division, has chosen the Tara Agrarian Reform Cooperative in Brgy. Carabalan as recipient of its P10-million grant.
Villaruel said the amount will be used as capital so the cooperative can operate as a quasi-bank.
She said the management of the TARC is now looking for an office space so they can start their operations.
She said representatives from COOP Natco will inspect the office of TARC before the release of the grant.*APN
