Cooperative cited by productivity body

A 9-year-old cooperative based in Negros Occidental was named outstanding small enterprise in the Agribusiness Sector during the Productivity Olympics 2013 spearheaded by the National Wages and Productivity Commission at the Century Park Hotel in Manila Thursday.
 
 
The San Rafael Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Multi-Purpose cooperative based in Murcia town, Negros Occidental bested 12 others from other regions and bagged a trophy and P100,000 in cash prize.

Starting as a group of land reform beneficiaries, SRARBMPC, is one of the cooperatives under the Self Reliant Organizations Project of Comprehensive Agrarian Reform program and the Department of Labor and Employment, Director Ponciano Ligutom of DOLE Region 6, said.

Ligutom also said that SRARBMPC’s business excellence which includes its income and production, and adequate human, financial and technical resources were the key factors in citing the cooperative. SRARBMPC, now with 60 members, posted a productivity rate of 34.69 percent last year.

Jeffrey Apurado, chairman of the committee on education of the cooperative, said their prize will be used for expansion to further benefit their members.

The Productivity Olympics is a nationwide annual competition among micro, small and medium enterprises on the best productivity improvement practices. It is aimed at intensifying national awareness and commitment to quality and productivity.
