DAR turns over infrastructure projects to Negros Occidental farmers

business mirrorTHE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) announced on Thursday of having turned over to local government officials and farmer-beneficiaries more than P4 million worth of infrastructure projects in the town of Hinobaan, Negros Occidental.

According to DAR officials, the projects are expected to help improve the lives of the people, particularly in Barangay Asia.

The projects include the 1.2-kilometer farm-to-market road, which the DAR said is worth P3.2 million.

“Also turned over is the 50.40-square-meter health station costing P877,674, implemented under the Agrarian Reform Communities Project II,” a statement from the DAR said on March 20.

The DAR statement on Wednesday added that the agency expects the projects to benefit 1,647 households in Barangay Asia alone.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Lucrecia S. Taberna said on March 20 the farm-to-market road provides the farmers easier access to trading centers, allowing them to bring their produce at less cost and with ease.

The health station, on the other hand, enables the local residents to seek medical aid without having to go to the town proper, Taberna added.

Members of the Asia Organic Farmer’s Association, represented by Naneelito Prado, thanked the government for its support to the people in the countryside.
