DAR distributes P197M in credit support to 5,000

visayan dailyThe Department of Agrarian Reform has distributed P197 million support assistance to 5,000 agrarian reform beneficiaries in southern Negros, under its Agrarian Production Credit Program.

This was revealed yesterday by Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer 1 Ronald Gareza, who accompanied World Bank representatives to a meeting with Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City.

Gareza said that, contrary to claims, the implementation of the agrarian reform program and extending support services to agrarian reform beneficiaries has not stopped.

“Once the notice of coverages are sent, we continue to process the claim folders,” he said.

On Wednesday, DAR Undersecretary Rosalina Bistoyong accompanied WB representatives in conducting of ocular inspection and review mission of its Project GROWTH in Brgy. Carabalan, Himamaylan.

Gareza said the visit of WB representatives is more on exploratory, problem identification and familiarization of DAR numerous projects in Himamaylan, Binalbagan and Isabela cluster areas.

While it is under the conceptualization phase, Gareza said that, in tandem with WB, they may launch projects, such as organic rice farming and development of other organic products, in consonance with the organic agricultural programs of Maranon.

The Project GROWTH of DAR in Himamaylan, Binalbagan and Isabela, with 34,000 hectares of agricultural lands, aims at organizing the farmer beneficiaries into a mature organization to make them grow and in preparation for the economies of scale.

There are 46 agrarian reform beneficiaries organizations in southern Negros alone.* GPB
