CLOAs distributed in Amlan

visayan dailyThe Department of Agrarian Reform in Negros Oriental distributed Certificates of Land Ownership Award to 20 agrarian reform beneficiaries of the landholding formerly owned by Antonette Fleischer in Amlan town in the province recently.

The 48.825-hectare property was covered by a Voluntary Offer to Sell, Gherelene Mae Rafols of the DAR said in a press release yesterday.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Louie Naranjo re-oriented the beneficiaries on their rights and obligations during the program after the CLOA distribution, it added.

It was the second time that the provincial DAR distributed CLOAs to the beneficiaries of the former Fleischer estate, who have formed themselves into the Bio-os United Farmers Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association, its president, Anthony Maginsay, said in the press release.

In a phone interview yesterday, he said that 118 tenants and their families have been identified as beneficiaries of the landholding but only about one third have received their CLOAs and the rest are still waiting for the documents so they can proceed with the tilling of the land.

Maginsay, a radio broadcaster, said he was among the 16 beneficiaries in the first batch to have received the CLOAs several months ago. He appealed to the DAR to fasttrack its release and distribution to his fellow farmer-beneficiaries who have been waiting for about six years now.

He said he and other beneficiaries had received two hectares each.

The distribution of CLOAs attended by Bio-os Barangay Captain Jaime Rosales, Manginsay and Naranjo, was led by the Municipal Agrarian Reform Office of Amlan, headed by Benjamin Empig, and development facilitator Julius Merecido.

An orientation on bana grass production technology was conducted by Manuel Utzurrum III, president of the Negros Mackey Corporation, during the awarding program.*JFP
