DAR 7 holds farmers’ forum and product exhibit; awards best performing ARBOs for 2015

Z WEB 20160106 REG07 P01The Department of Agrarian Reform in Region VII (DAR-7) conducted a two-day Regional Farmers’ Forum and Product Exhibits with the theme: “Kalihokang Agraryo: Lintunganay sa Kalamboan” on December 7-8, 2015 at the Cebu Northwinds Hotel, Lahug, Cebu City.

Assistant Regional Director Atty. Josephus Baterna said the forum seeks to share knowledge with the farmers to increase their level of awareness on climate change, weather, environment, agricultural best practices and knowledge on natural farming inputs.

The DAR invited the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-7), Department of Agriculture (DA-7), PAGASA Visayas, and National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA7) to impart knowledge and shared their best practices on the said topics.

Assistant Regional Director Dr. Antonio del Socorro said the activity is part of the operational directive to gather the farmers to learn from one another and showcase the agrarian reform communities (ARC) products through the ARC Product Exhibits.

The products displayed were corn coffee, banana chips, ginger candy, carrot juice, salabat powder, peanut brittle, herbal tea, polvoron, squash crackers, squash pancit canton, alamang preservers and others vermicast fertilizers and native handicrafts products.

Z WEB 20160106 REG07 P02Seven Best Performing Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOs) in 2015 were cited for implementing program beneficiaries development (PBD) projects under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).

The Lapay Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Multi-Purpose Cooperative (LARBEMCO) of Sitio Lapay, Dawis, Bayawan City, Negros Oriental received an award for implementing the Agrarian Production Credit Project (APCP). Ramrod Agricultural Multi-Purpose Cooperative (RAMPUCO) Mabigo, Canlaon City in Negros Oriental also received an award for implementing the Village Level Processing Center Enhancement Project (VLPCEP).

Other awardees were the Kaahugpongan Sa Mag Igsoong Nalawig sa Kalamboan (KASILAK) in Poblacion , San Miguel, Bohol for the Best Performing ARBO in implementing the Agrarian Reform Community Connectivity and Economic Support Services (ARCCESS); the San Jose Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SJARBMC) in barangay Caputatan Sur, Medellin in Cebu for implementing the Credit Assistance Program For Program Beneficiaries Development (CAP-PBD); Tinabangay Sa Mag-uuma Gasa in San isidro Muti-purpose Cooperative (TIMGAS) in Poblacion, Trinidad, Bohol for implementing the DAR & the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD), Inc. (DAR-CARD) project.

For implementing the Micro-Savings Operations (MSO), two Best Performing ARBOs were recognized and awarded to Catulayan Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative (CCMPC) in Catulayan, San Juan in Siquijor, and Sta Ana Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SAMCO) in Candijay, Bohol.

In behalf of the Regional Director Alejandro Otacan, Del Socorro congratulated the best performing ARBOs. He expected the ARBOs to continue their performance and inspire other DAR assisted organizations in increasing their farm production and income. (Rosanna Gay S. Visitacion)
