Cebu farmers receive dump trucks from DAR

news reg 1 pix 1 may 18 2016The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently turned over two (2) 10-wheeler dump trucks to the Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organizations (ARBOs) in Medellin, Cebu to address the hauling needs of the farmers.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II  (PARPO) Elvira B. Bation said the machineries, provided under the Agrarian Reform Community Connectivity and Economic Support Services (ARCCESS) program costing P 11.4-million at P5.7-million each, aim to boost the harvest of the farmers, thus an improvement to their income.

“The dump trucks will also serve as an added service of the cooperative to its members and other farmers with the earning to be used as business asset of the organization and for the maintenance of the trucks,” Bation said.

The recipient of the support projects are San Jose Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Multi-purpose Cooperative (SJARBMPC) and Canhabagat Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Multi-purpose Cooperative (CARBMPC).

Regional Director Alejandro Otacan said the two ARBOs are so fortunate to be included among the qualified recipients of the farm machineries identified nationwide.  He added that the dump trucks will be of great help to the farmer members of the ARBOs who were also identified as lead organizations for the sugar block farming.

“Sugar block farming is a system where small sugarcane farmer who formed themselves into groups, with their farms consolidated into 30-50 hectares and adopt economies of scale to make their farm operations more cost efficient and more productive and profitable,” Otacan explained.

SJARBMPC Manager CresverAncero said they have been waiting for the truck  because it is part of their cooperative services to their members.  “The dump truck would greatly benefit the farmer-members because of its lower rental fee compared to other rental trucking services.

Flora Argawanon, Chairman of Canhabagat ARB Multi-purpose Cooperative, also expressed her gratitude to the government for the awarded landholdings and for all the support services that has been extended to them by the DAR.

The turn-over ceremony include the signing of memorandum of agreement (MoA) involving DAR Regional Director Alejandro Otacan, PARPO Elvira Bation and the concerned ARBOs.  Other officials who witnessed the signing of the MoA were PARPO I Varinia Fabillar, MARPO Jennette Oporto, Sugar Regulatory Authority (SRA) Representative Paul Onal, and some barangay officials.
