DAR distributes landholdings in Cebu

news reg 2 pix 1 dec. 13 2016FIFTY (50) farmer-beneficiaries from Cebu City are expected to improve their economic lives as   agrarian reform Secretary Rafael Mariano distributed of certificates of land ownership award (CLOA) during the Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARB) Summit held in the municipality of Guadalupe in the said province.

The  agricultural lands has an aggregate area of 278.6794 hectares located in Minglanilla, Barili, Tuburan, and Cebu City. 

The landholdings were formerly owned by Margarita Larrañaga, covering an area of 228.6324 hectares located in Borbon town; Genoviva Villalon, 38.8053 hectare in Minglanilla town; Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation, 1.5254 hectares located in  Barili town; V. A. Cabahug Agricultural Corporation, 6.0053 hectares inTuburan town; and Lapulapu Rural Bank, Inc. 3.7110 hectares  in the municipality of Adlaon.news reg 2 pix 2 dec. 13 2016

Aside from Secretary Rafael Mariano, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) officials who attended the summit include Regional Director Alejandro Otacan, Assistant Regional Director Josephus Baterna, Regional Agrarian Reform Adjudicator Rosalio T. Kintanar,   Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Elvira Bation, and Chief Agrarian Reform Program Officer Lilian Guanzon.

news reg 2 pix 3 dec. 13 2016The activity served as an effective venue for interaction and exchange of ideas and experiences among the DAR officials and the ARBs,, DAR Cebu Employees, government line agencies, non-government organizations, and civil societies. 

Mariano discussed the thrust and policy direction of the current administration geared towards promoting farmers’ rights and welfare and ensuring food security in the country and rural development. 

Bation, on the other hand, said that of the 36,060 hectares of Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program or CARP-covered lands in Cebu, 35,118 hectares were already accomplished and distributed to 34,273 ARBs, who have now become the new landowners. (Yuna Kintanar)
