128 Bohol farmers now proud owners of lands they till

news reg 1 pix 1 jan. 18 2018TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol – The long wait is over as hope moved towards the lives of 128 Boholano farmers who received their individual certificates of land ownership award (CLOAs) in a turn-over ceremony held at Dao Diamond Hotel in this city on Thursday, January 18.

“Wala ko nagdahom nga matinuod ni. Kaniadto mga pasalig lang nga mahatagan mig titulo. Ning bag-o lang nakadungod ko nga gipapaspasan ni Presidente Duterte ang proseso aron marelease ang mga CLOA. Abi kog parehas ra sa mga saad niadto. Tinuod gyud diay (I did not expect this will come true. There were promises before that land titles will be released to us. Recently, I heard that President Duterte ordered to fast-track the processing of CLOAs. I thought it was just another promise. It came out to be true)” said Crispiniano Fuerzas, 54, married with two children from Barangay Maitum, Catigbian, Bohol.

Fuerzas was among the 128 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) who received his CLOA last Thursday here. Filled with gladness, he expressed gratitude to the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) for the land title he now possesses.

Another farmer-beneficiary, Anecito Granaderos, 57, married with six children from Barangay Mahayag, San Miguel town said he has been farming the more than one hectare of land for more than 20 years.

It is only during the administration of President Duterte and the present leadership of DAR that he is assured of land ownership, he added.news reg 1 pix 2 jan. 18 2018

The CLOA distribution was led by Undersecretary Karlo S. Bello of DAR Field Operations Office who represented Secretary Castriciones together with Director Leomides R. Villareal of the Public Assistance and Media Relations Service (PAMRS), Director Alejandro S. Otacan of DAR Region 7 and PARPO II Grace B. Fua of DAR Bohol Province.

Other DAR officials in Region 7 and Bohol province present during the ceremony include Asst. Reg. Dir. Eliasem P. Castillo and PARAD DAR Bohol chief Atty. Nellie S. Canillas.

Bohol Governor Edgar M. Chatto also graced the ceremony and called on the ARBs to develop fully their landholdings.

The governor also recognized the contributions of DAR to the overall efforts of the provincial government of Bohol to bring down the poverty incidence in the area.

Landlessness and land problems, Chatto said, are among the root causes of poverty and conflicts in Bohol.

The CLOAs distributed covered around 103.5351 hectares of land in various municipalities in Bohol Province.

The towns include Carmen with 8.2725 hectares covered; Catigbian with 17.4924 hectares; Getafe with 5.4217 and 19.5585 hectares; Danao with 12.3711 hectares; Pilar with 13.6240 and 2.1319 hectares; San Miguel with 0.4473 and 8.2445 hectares; Sierra Bullones with 5.6982 hectares; and Guindulman with 10.2730 hectares.

He also reiterated the rallying point of President Duterte’s mandate to DAR, and that is to accelerate the processing and release of individual land titles to the poor farmers.

Earlier this month, Secretary John R. Castriciones cited the 92-percent accomplishment of DAR last year, describing such feat as an outstanding one.

The new DAR chief vowed to pursue the department’s cause to uplift the lives of poor farmers in the country.

Villareal, for his part, reminded the ARBs that aside from CLOA distribution, DAR is also mandated to provide the beneficiaries with support programs and services that will help them develop their farms and improve their lives, while PARPO Fua thanked the landowners who allowed their lands to be covered under the agrarian reform program of the government.

“Let us give thanks to President Duterte for the continuation of the land reform program. This is the reason why you receive your land titles today,” Director Otacon said.news reg 1 pix 4 jan. 18 2018

He added that there were attempts in the past to stop of implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) but the present administration decided to proceed with the land reform and distribution programs.

“We will continue with the program. We have the support of the President,” Otacan pointed out.
