DAR NegOr reaches 87% accomplishment in land distribution

piaDUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 22 (PIA) – The Department of Agrarian Reform Provincial Office (DARPO) here reported that they have reached 87.44% accomplishment in their Land Acquisition and Distribution (LAD) program.

The figure is equivalent to 106,147 land hectares distributed to 71, 805 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) throughout the province.

Atty. Louie Naranjo, Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer (PARPO), said that for January to October this year, around 319 areas of land was handed over to ARBs with Certificate of Land Ownership Award (CLOA).

DARPO continues to process the distribution of some 1,747 land areas which are part of their target this year.

Naranjo hopes that they can turn over these lands to beneficiaries by Dec. 31.

Meanwhile, Naranjo disclosed that there are some 15, 000 land hectares to be acquired and distributed by DARPO in 2014.

However, Naranjo expressed that there might be some difficulties in acquiring these lands as they expect some resistance from land owners.

But he assured that they will do their best to obtain these 15,000 hectares of land.

DARPO aims to handover to ARBs all lands in the province covered by the program by 2016.

Aside from land distribution, DARPO is also conducting seminars and symposium like Sugarcane Farming Technology Trainings in Tanjay City, Mabinay, and Bais City as part of their Sustainable Agribusiness and Rural Enterprise Development program.

DARPO also has an Agri-Insurance Program, an insurance policy for ARBs that covers their agricultural crops and livestock.

Naranjo said many ARBs in Bayawan City claimed their insurance in their office after a massive flood hit the city few months ago.

He explained that the premiums of the insurance are paid by DARPO but ARBs can claim it especially in times of emergency.

Naranjo invited all ARBs to register in the Agri-Insurance Program.

DARPO also assists farmers by handing them farm tractor and other implements.

“I would like to correct the impression that DAR is only for land acquisition and distribution. We do a lot of support services,”  Naranjo said.

Atty. Naranjo was the speaker during the briefing-orientation yesterday of the Association of Negros Oriental Public Information Officers (ANOPIO).

ANOPIO is an aggrupation of information officers from local government units, national government agencies, and some universities in Negros Oriental. (rmn/RAL/PIA7-NEGOR)
