DAR-8 Commemorates 27th Year Of CARP

news 2 june 24 2015 regional 1TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Eastern Visayas opened on June 16 the two-week celebration of the 27th (CARP) implementation with a motorcade around the city.

Regional Director Sheila Enciso said that among the highlights of the celebration is the Agraryo Trade Fair held at the DAR Regional Office compound. The trade fair formally opened to the public on June 17 and will run up to June 26.

“The trade fair has showcased products of agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) ranging from agriculture to handicrafts and processed foods. It also demonstrated the ARBs’ resilience to stand up from the devastation wrought by super typhoon Yolanda in November 2013.”

Another highlight of the celebration is the installation of 34 ARBs in six landholdings in Ormoc City which were formerly owned by Gerardo Tan and the Potenciano and Anecita Larrazabal Enterprise Corporation. They have a combined total area of more than 54 hectares.news 2 june 24 2015 regional 2

Simultaneous with the opening of the Agraryo Trade Fair, DAR distributed the 100 shredders worth P49.5 million to the 100 ARB organizations (ARBOs). Undersecretary for Support Services Rosalina Bistoyong led in the opening of the trade fair and the distribution of the shredders on June 17.

“These ARBOs were identified weeks ago by the agency. They underwent intensive training on the proper use of these shredders that turns biodegradable debris into income generating activities,” said Enciso.

Bistoyong, said these machines were funded under the Agrarian Reform Communities Connectivity and Economic Support Services (ARCCESS) and just among DAR’s contribution to the Rehabilitation after Yolanda (RAY) project.

Republic Act No. 6657 or the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law (CARL) was signed on June 10, 1988 by then President Corazon Aquino.

Since then some 430,641 hectares of agricultural lands in Region-8 had already been distributed to 239,245 ARBs.  (Jose Alsmith L. Soria)
