DAR shredders for agrarian reform beneficiaries

manila bulletin blue logoTacloban City –  The Department of Agrarian Reform regional office 8 (DAR-8) distributed shredders to 54 Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organizations (ARBOs) from Leyte province.

Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico L. Petilla informed reporters that the 54 ARBOs are from typhoon Yolanda-ravaged areas of his province and received the shredders as part of the component for the Yolanda survivors’ farming livelihood recovery.

The shredders will be used by the farmers to chop farm wastes like rice stalks, grasses, twigs and other similar farm wastes for conversion into organic fertilizer.

DAR-8 Regional Information Officer Jose Alsmith Soria said the 54 Leyte ARBOs are part of the 100 ARBOs in Eastern Visayas from Yolanda devastated areas who received shredders, each of which costs P495,000.

Other ARBOs who received shredders are: 16 from Eastern Samar, 10 from Biliran, nine from Samar, seven from Southern Leyte, and four from Northern Samar.
