Sugarcane Farmers Receive Dump Trucks From DAR

news reg pix 1 march 4 2016TACLOBAN CITY—Two 10-wheeler dump trucks worth P11.4 million were recently turned over by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) to two farmers’ organizations here to help reduce hauling cost and provide them added sources of revenues.

DAR Regional Director Sheila Enciso said the dump trucks were awarded to the Boroc Agricultural Producers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BAP-MPC) in Ormoc City and the Libongao DAR Farmer Beneficiaries Association in Kananga. The two farmers’ organizations, Enciso pointed out, are into sugar block farming.

“Sugar block farming is one of the agricultural-enterprise projects that the department is pursuing under the Agrarian Reform Communities Connectivity and Economic Support Services (ARCCESS).”

“The dump trucks are among the recommended common service facilities by the state universities and colleges commissioned by DAR to conduct the needs and design assessments (NADA) for our different agri-enterprise projects under ARCCESS,” Enciso added.news reg pix 2 march 4 2016

Enciso said the tractors would be managed by the farmers’ organizations as an enterprise where farmer-members and non-member-farmers in the community could rent the dump trucks. The earnings would be used as business assets of the organizations and for the maintenance of the trucks.

Cesario Pulvera, BAP-MPC Manager said the dump truck is a big help to their cooperative especially in hauling harvested sugarcanes.

With this truck, Pulvera said, “we save some cash as it is rented out to us for only P900.00 which is much lower than the prevailing fee of P1,000 to P1,500 per trip depending on the distance and the condition of the road.”

As the lead agrarian reform beneficiary organization (ARBO) for sugar block farming, the BAP-MPC has also received from DAR two heavy tractors in 2014 and a 120-horse power  tractor last year.
