news reg 1 pix 1 sept. 21 2016VILLABA, Leyte--“This is a dream come true!” said Barangay Sambulawan Chairwoman Tessie Mayot during the turnover rites of the 3.4-kilometer rehabilitated farm-to-market road, which now connects Barangay Casili-on and Sambulawan to the national highway.

Mayot, who was elated with the rehabilitation of the road, said her constituents would now experience safe and comfortable travel with the recent road improvement.

“Those from Barangays San Francisco, Capiñahan, New Balanac and Cahigan who uses this road to transport their products, would also greatly benefit from this road rehabilitation,” Mayot added.

She narrated the discomfort and risks they took when passing thru the spillway during rainy days. She said water overflows in the spillway which made it slippery for people crossing the spillway.

They have dreamed for this road to be repaired but never thought it would be realized until the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) implemented the project thru the second phase of the Agrarian Reform Community Project (ARCP-II).

Leyte Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Renato Badilla turned over to the local government the 3.42-kilometer rehabilitated road.

He emphasized to the recipient LGU the latter’s responsibility in the maintenance of the said project. According to him, if properly maintained in good condition within 10 years this project will be converted into a grant.news reg 1 pix 2 sept. 21 2016

DAR Regional Director Sheila Enciso explained that Barangays Casili-on and Sambulawan are part of the Villaba agrarian reform community (ARC) with 2,178 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs).

“With the rehabilitation of this road, farmers in this area will now find it easy transporting their harvests to the town proper for trading,” said Enciso.

“More than 3,000 population from six barangays are also estimated to benefit from this project implemented under the Program Beneficiaries Development component of the DAR,” she added. (Jose Alsmith L. Soria)
