news reg 1 pix 1 march 21 2018NORTHERN SAMAR – The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently turned-over P69.8-million worth of three (3) farm-to-market roads in Gamay, Northern Samar.

The road projects are aimed to provide easier and faster access for farmers to transport their agricultural products to various markets, commercial trades, and other communities.

Regional Director Sheila Enciso said the farm-to-market roads are contiguous passing through the barangays of Cagamutan, Bato, Bangon and GM Osias with an aggregate length of 8.3 kilometers. The road project in Barangay Bangon is constructed with a 30-linear meter bridge.

“All projects are implemented under the second phase of the Agrarian Reform Communities Project (ARCP-II),” Enciso said.

Cagamutan del Norte-Bato-Bangon farm-to-market road has a total cost of P29,238,531; Cagamutan-Bato-Bangon road, P21,999,9118; and Bangon-G.M. Osias road has P18,566.899.news reg 1 pix 2 march 21 2018

“Because of the bridge constructed in with this road, the farmers and the residents don’t have to wade through the river anymore in crossing Barangay Bangon,” Enciso said.

Aside from the four barangays where the projects are situated, Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer (PARPO) Nida Abelido disclosed that residents from seven more remote villages also benefited from the road project.

Undersecretary for Foreign Assisted and Special Projects Sylvia Mallari said rural infrastructures open opportunities particularly to the farmers and help solve insurgency in some areas as well.

“Development projects like this and also rural growth centers help combat poverty in the countryside; and this compliments the core mandate of DAR, the Land Tenure Improvement,” Mallari said.

She added that this is what the DAR is doing in partnership with the local government units (LGUs).news reg 1 pix 4 march 21 2018

Mayor Timoteo Capoquian acknowledged DAR’s contribution to his town’s development. According to him, DAR is the town’s biggest donor in terms of rural infrastructures referring to these turned over projects with a combined amount reaching ₱66.4-M.

Though the total project cost was shared by the LGU and the national government thru a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Capoquian thanked DAR for assisting them to build road networks.

The turn-over ceremony of the road project was the highlight of the 71st founding anniversary celebration of this town. of the 71st founding anniversary celebration of this town. (JOSE ALSMITH L. SORIA-DAR Northern Samar)
