DAR distributes 277 hectares to 151 farmers in Samar, Leyte

A day before the distribution, the DAR turned over a P6.4-million farm-to-market road to local officials in Ocampo, Camarines Sur.
DAR Region 8 Director Sheila Enciso emphasized the important role of farmers who received their Certificate of Land Ownership Awards and other small farming families in alleviating poverty and ensuring global food security.
Under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program, large tracks of lands are subdivided into family farms and redistributed to farmers to make them more productive as they become the new owners of the land.
Meanwhile, the DAR in Camarines Sur expects the completion of a farm-to-market road to boost agricultural production in Ocampo town.
DAR Camarines Sur-A Head Leonito M. Gaveria said the 1-kilometer Old Moriones-San Roque Commonal farm-to-market road would provide the agrarian-reform beneficiaries easier access to nearby markets and trading centers.
The project was implemented under the Agrarian Reform Communities Project II funded by the Asian Development Bank with counterpart from the local government of Ocampo.
The turnover ceremony of the project was attended by Ocampo Mayor Corazon Olos, Vice Mayor Pepito Ponce, Councilor Noel Soriano, Barangay Chairman Vilma P. Olarte and other barangay and DAR officials.
