DAR turns over 6.33 km FMR in Balingoan, Mis.Or.

Cagayan de Oro City – On May 8, 2014, the Department of Agrarian Reform turned over a Php 40.5 M farm-to-market road covering barangays Bauk-Bauk, Kabangasan and Mapua in the municipality of Balingoan, Misamis Oriental.
PARPO II Zoraida Macadindang of Misamis Oreintal said that the 6.33179 km FMR project was funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Government of the Philippines (GOP) and implemented by the Department of Agrarian Reform and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The event started with a convoy going to Barangay Bauk-Bauk, where the concreting of the road started, for the cutting of ribbon and the unveiling of the first post and proceeded to the second post in Barangay Mapua, where the road ended.
The turn-over was formally held in Barangay Mapua which was graced by the presence of Balingoan Mayor Pedro Panulaya, Vice-Mayor Bella Veja Dilla, DPWH District Engr. Leonardo Paulican and staff, DAR-10 Regional Director Felix Aguhob together with his staff, and the barangay chairmen from Bauk-Bauk, Kabangasan, Mapua and Dahilig.
RD Felix Aguhob expressed heartfelt gratitude that the project is completed and is now being turned over. “Gibuhat ang dalan alang sa katuyuan nga unta mapalambo ang atong mga kayutaan. Ug aron usab nga ang inyong mga produkto mas sayon ihatod sa merkado (The road was made with the intention of making the land productive. And so that you [farmers] can easily bring your products to the market), ” Aguhob said.
Lydia Balaquit, 56 years old, a farmer in Barangay Mapua said, “Kaniadto dili nalang me motugbong sa merkado kung mag-ulan kay delikado tungod kay digyas kayo ang dalan. Pero karon mag raincoat lang ok na. (Before, we didn’t want to go to the market when it rained because the road was very slippery and it was very dangerous. But now we can just wear a raincoat and it’s ok).”
Marivic Requerme, 36 years old, a wife of a farmer and a kagawad of Barangay Kabangasan said that unlike before when the road was just a meter wide, the newly constructed two-lane road now makes transporting their goods to the market a lot easier.
Engr. Paulican urged the people of the barangays to take good care of the road. “Ang usa sa pag amping aron kining inyong kalsada motaas-taas ug serbisyo mao ang paglampas sa mga sagbot unya kun moabot na sa dalan ug pag-atiman sa mga kanal-kanal aron walay tubig nga mokankan sa semento sa kalsada. (One way of taking care of your [farmers] road so that it will last long is to cut the grass if it reaches the road and see to it that there’s no water stuck in drainages or canals that could ruin the road),”Paulican said.
Engr. Paulican also said that he had talked with Mayor Panulaya about a water fall in Barangay Dahilig that could possibly be turned into a tourist site. He added that the Department of Tourism (DOT) won’t have a hard time funding the additional road going to the falls since there is already an existing road.
