DAR joins Serbisyo Caravan

WEB R11 photo 1The Department of Agrarian Reform recently delivered badly needed assistance to tribal communities in Talaingod, Davao del Norte, following the Sebisyo Caravan activity spearheaded by ARENA XI.

DAR Regional Director John M. Maruhom said more than three thousand indigenous people, mostly coming from the Ata-Manobo tribe, benefitted from the various government services extended by the member-agencies of ARENA XI.

Maruhom said, the Serbisyo Caravan, which started in 2011 “as a flagship project of ARENA XI, seeks to bring government services closer to the poor communities of remote and depressed areas in Southern Mindanao (region 11).”

WEB R11 photo 2Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Jocelyn Seno of Davao del Norte joined Maruhom in providing agrarian legal assistance and disseminating information on the projects and services the DAR extended, which included basic infrastructures and livelihood programs.

“The department has been helping these indigenous tribes for years now. So far, DAR has distributed around 657 hectares of private agricultural lands among the three barangays of Talaingod to 454 qualified agrarian reform beneficiaries,” said Maruhom.

Maruhom added that in 2011 and 2014, Talaingod was recipient of DAR’s infrastructure projects such as rehabilitation and improvement of roads, institutional development and agriculture and agri-enterprise development projects implemented under the Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Support Projects (ARISP).

In attendance were the provincial government of Davao del Norte, the municipal government of Talaingod and the 10th Infantry Division of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

WEB R11 photo 3Also in attendance were member-secretaries of the Cabinet Security Cluster and other key national government officials, who joined the consultative dialogue.
