DAR installs 160 farmers in Compostela Valley

news reg pix 1 june 10 2016After several months of delay and setbacks,  the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) finally installed 160 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs), belonging to Compostela Plantation Inc. – Banana Producers Cooperative (CPI-BPC), in the 7.2984 hectares of banana farm land, in Brgy. Mangayon, Compostela Valley.

Regional Director John M. Maruhom said the installation was not a smooth process, some 22 farm workers of a certain Joana Lago-Montero claimed that they bought the land from Jorge Villarin, the former landowner, who had earlier barricaded the farm with banana stalks.

Maruhom said the workers carried with them their planting tools like bolo, questioned the installation process as they claimed to be the rightful beneficiaries and tillers since 1994.news reg pix 2 june 10 2016

Compostela Valley Province Vice Governor Manuel Zamora and Compostela Mayor Lema Bolo with DAR Sheriff Adelaido Caminade and some police personnel from the Provincial Police Office, mediated in the standoff to successfully implement the writ of installation issued by PARPO II Eduardo E. Suaybaguio on September15, 2015.

The DAR also attributed the peaceful implementation of the Writ of Execution to the support and cooperation of some members from the 66th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army.

“Gikan karon, kining yutaa, inyoha nani” (From now on, this land is yours), Sherriff  Caminade said to the beneficiaries, during the installation activity. (Mike Tan, PIA Davao/Issa Ripalda, DAR)
