DAVAO CITY (Nov. 3, 2016)—Assistant Secretary Jonas George Soriano of the office of the Cabinet Secretary explained the Duterte administration’s development and security plans to around 300 participants from government agencies, nongovernment organizations, and social development experts who are here today on a two-day conference to craft recommendations on rural development for inclusion in the 2017-2022 Philippine Development Plan (PDP).
Soriano explained to the participants that the objective of the conference is to get their suggestions on how the government can advance the progress and development of the rural sector.
Also present was Director Merceditas Sombillo of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) who presented the framework of the Duterte administration’s Philippine Development Plan (PDP). She explained that the suggestions coming from the rural sector should be anchored on the Philippine national vision called Ambisyon Natin 2040.
Sombillo said Ambisyon Natin 2040 which was launched in March, proposes that by 2040, the Philippines shall be a prosperous, predominantly middle-class society where no one is poor.
“The Ambisyon Natin envisions that our people will enjoy long and healthy lives, are smart and innovative, and will live in a high-trust society,” said Sombillo.
The conference is a thematic summit on food security, land tenure improvement and environmental protection whose proponents are the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The conference is being held today and tomorrow at the Waterfront Insular Hotel, Davao City. (pinky roque)
