DAR turns over P4.7-M post-harvest facility, benefits some 800 coco, cacao farmers in Davao

piaQUEZON CITY, Dec. 2 - Various agrarian reform beneficiaries organizations (ARBO) from the municipality of Magsaysay, Davao del Sur  recently received P 4.7-million post-harvest facility from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

DAR Undersecretary Rosalina Bistoyong said the facility would supplement the 669 hectares production area in the community. “More or less 800  coconut and cacao  farmers from barangays San Miguel, Glamang, Tagaytay, Balnate, Bacungan and Malawanit, would benefit from this project,” Bistoyong added.

The post-harvest facility is implemented under the Mindanao Sustainable Agrarian and Agriculture Development (MINSAAD) Project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), while the local government of Magsaysay has 30% counterpart to complete the project.

“The DAR will closely monitor the project’s utilization, we hope that you (the farmers) work hand in hand with us and do your part to maximize its use to boost your standard of living,” Bistoyong said.

Kasya Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (KAFAMULCO) Chairman Eduardo Lopez Sr., on the other hand,   profusely thanked the DAR, MINSAAD and the local government of Magsaysay for linking their arms in supporting the project.

“We will continue to seek technical assistance from various government trainings, particularly from the DAR’s, to improve our coconut  and cacao production. We assure you that all of us will take good care of this facility with utmost care,” Lopez said.

The beneficiaries of the post-harvest facility include Sitio Macabulos Tribal  Association (SMTA), Kasya Famers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (KAFAMULCO), Balnate Workers Farmers Association (BAFAWA), Bacungan Upland Farmers & Workers Association (BUFAWA), Tagaytay United Farmers & Workers Association (TUFAWA), Malawanit Farmers Multi-purpose Cooperative (MAFAMCO) and Glamang Farmers Workers Association (GLAFAWA).
