Banisilan ARC named Mindanao’s most progressive ARC

piaKIDAPAWAWAN CITY,  North Cotabato,  Dec 2 (PIA)  --   Banisilan Agrarian  Reform  Community (ARC)  in  Banisilan, North Cotabato was  recently  adjudged as  the 2014 Most  Progressive  ARC in Mindanao, an  official  of the  Department  of Agrarian  Reform  here  announced.

Marion Abella, provincial agrarian reform program officer II, said Banisilan ARC was recognized during the Annual Awards and Recognition Program Awarding Ceremonies at the Bureau of Soils and Water Management Convention Center in Quezon City.

“DAR-Cotabato Provincial Office is very proud for the feat the Banisilan ARC has achieved,  where our hard work in community development is recognized,” Abella said.

DAR-National Agrarian Reform Community Task Force (NARCTF) evaluated  ARCs  for their level  of development, agricultural productivity, social mobilization, development strategies, and sustainability mechanisms, wherein, according to Abella Banisilan ARC showed excellent  performance.

“Banisilan ARC has been a recipient of UNDP-SARDIC program in 1998, DAR-STARCM project in 2002, and SPOTS I project in 2004 wherein the NARCTF has found the projects growing and sustaining up to this time,” Abella said.

“The cooperation and support of the communities has been the key to the success of all programs and projects extended to them by DAR, and other government and non-government organizations. Thus, the award would not have been made possible without the participation of the people.”

Banisilan ARC, comprised  of barangays Gastav, Kalawaig, and Paradise, was launched as an ARC in 1993

It has a total land acquisition and distribution scope of 3,682.8312 hectares and with 860 agrarian reform beneficiaries.

DAR used ARC as a development approach to increase farm production, improve household income, and promote sustainable development in the countryside since 1993.

“We are also acknowledging the outstanding contributions and commitment of other key players who have made the success of CARP possible,” Abella said.

The award was given in line with the celebration of the International Year of Family Farming.

North Cotabato  has 33  ARCs. (ROrejudos-DAR N. Cotabato/DEDoguiles-PIA 12)
