Farmer groups in N. Cotabato receive almost P1-M farm inputs aid

piaKIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato,  Jan 20 (PIA)  --   Three farmers organizations in Kabacan town in North Cotabato recently received farm input assistance amounting to P900,000 under the  national  government  flagship program  Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA), an official of the Department of Agrarian Reform announced.

Marion Abella, provincial agrarian reform program officer II, said DAR has turned-over farm inputs amounting  to  P300,000   for  each  of the   following  organizations: Osias Samahang Nayon Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Samahan ng mga Kababaihan ng Upper Paatan, and Nangaan Irrigator Farmers Association.

“The farm inputs  were identified by the organizations  as their  priority in   line with the  efforts to reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of the people in their community,” Abella said.

These organizations, Abella said, received farm inputs to respond to the farming needs of the organization members.

Osias Samahang Nayon Multi-Purpose Cooperative received rice production machineries including  one rice thresher, one 24HP engine diesel, one trailer with transmission, and one power turtle tiller with 10 HP Engine.

Meanwhile, the Samahan ng mga Kababaihan ng Upper Paatan and Nangaan Irrigator Farmers Association which desire to respond to the farm input requirements of their constituents were  given farm supplies such as fertilizers, rice seeds, and pesticides.

“The project will be managed by the organizations as an enterprise where the farmers in the community could borrow farm supplies at a competitive market price. Through this scheme, the organizations will be empowered to make their organizations grow by engaging into business through these projects,” Abella said.

He added that cost sharing scheme in the form of labor, kind or in cash in implementing activities is required to instill sense of ownership of the projects granted to them and to ensure the sustainability of the project.

“We also help the organizations in the establishment of the policy system and procedure which will guide them in their business operation,” he said.

PAMANA is the national government’s peace and development framework to respond and strengthen peace building, reconstruction and development in conflict-affected areas which aims to contribute to lasting peace by reducing poverty and improving the quality of life in Agrarian Reform Areas through community infrastructure and focused delivery of social services. (ROrejudos-DAR North Cotabato/DEDoguiles-PIA 12)
