DAR- Sultan Kudarat Celebrates Women’s Month

reg 12Employees of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Sultan Kudarat started the celebration of women’s month with the Local Government Unit of Isulan, Sultan Kudarat on March 8.

“March 8 is the International Women’s Day celebration. Here in the Philippines, it’s but appropriate to celebrate the day when women are being extolled worldwide,” said Mylene Castares, president of DAR Ladies Association (DARLA).

The celebration kicked-off with a street dancing competition participated in by 18 women groups from the different barangays of Isulan including the DARLA.

Participants aptly expressed in street dancing the special occasion’s  theme “Juana, Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw Na!”

“The dance was an expression of the achievements of women and at the same time, an encouragement to women to step up and be active in the fight for women’s rights and their welfare and development in the country,” Castares said.

Prior to the kick off, the DAR participated in the fun run and zumba activities of the Provincial Government of Sultan Kudarat in a pre-women’s month celebration of the local government.

Castares said the DARLA is very active in looking out for the welfare of women in the agency by making sure that their roles in the society are recognized by conducting activities for members of DARLA like field trips and fellowships.

Castares added that women in DAR are already empowered saying that three of the highest positions in the four divisions of DAR provincial office are held by women. (Jose Jemuel Dael)
