Farmers train to become paralegal volunteers

Z WEB NATL 20151107 R12 SULKUT 01KORONADAL CITY—Farmer-beneficiaries were trained to become paralegal volunteers to assist the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in the implementation of agrarian reform in Sultan Kudarat.
 
The training aims to equip agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) with the necessary skills on mediation and conciliation, and educate them about agrarian laws, rights and obligations of ARBs, human rights and the role of Barangay Agrarian Reform Council (BARC) and paralegal in implementing mechanics in the acquisition and distribution of agricultural lands.
 
Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Rodolfo Alburo said “in the course of the implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law, the Department realized that paralegal volunteers are effective in resolving agrarian-related issues at the farmers’ level.

“This training also seeks to organized farmers and farm workers in resolving tenurial issues and other agrarian related concerns and strengthening the partnership between and among agrarian reform stakeholders, farmer paralegals and local implementers,” said Alburo.
 
In addition to in-house speakers from the Regional and Provincial Officers, the DAR also invited one speaker from the Commission on Human Rights to discuss about human rights and the rights of farmers.
 
The training concluded with the expression of commitment from the participants to help DAR in resolving problematic landholdings in their areas.
 
The three-day training was participated in by 31 ARBs from various municipalities in Sultan Kudarat. (Jose Jemuel B. Dael)
